Economic leaders discuss opportunities and challenges of expected 250k population increase over next 20 years

The opportunities and challenges posed by Greenville’s unprecedented growth in recent years were the focus of a panel discussion sponsored by VisitGreenvilleSC at the Greenville One Center Feb. 22.

A packed house listened as moderator James Jordon, president and CEO of Jordon Construction, led local and state tourism and economic development leaders in a wide-ranging discussion about growth and what all the new people and companies flocking to the area represent.

The panelists were:

Mark Farris, president and CEO of the Greenville Area Development Corporation
Ashely Teasdel, Assistant Secretary of Commerce of South Carolina
Heath Dillard, president and CEO of VisitGreenvilleSC
Carlos Phillips, president and CEO of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce
There was widespread agreement Greenville’s growth is beneficial despite the challenges such growth poses, as the alternative to a growing community is a dying one, panelists said.

The CEO Build started in 2013 with a handful of CEO’s and has now grown to over 35 CEO’s supporting this build- with 2 Habitat houses being built through this program (James Jordon pictured with Noel Brooks, Habitat for Humanity).
