Greenville developer purchases historically significant downtown buildings

August 10, 2023 – Greenville, SC – Jordan Development Group recently closed on two properties with historical significance in Downtown Greenville, home to successful African American businesses over the years.

“I’m very big on history. I think that history empowers us. I think that knowledge of history shows us where we’ve been and is also an indicator of the great things we can accomplish moving forward,” James Jordan, owner of Jordan Development Company, said.

Jordan will develop two properties near Greenville County Square.

They are the former Manigault House, which was a prime event space hosting birthday parties, showers and weddings and the Law Office of Theo Mitchell, an attorney and former South Carolina senator who was a prominent figure both in the legal and political realms.

Kenneth Manigault and Theo Mitchell took a leap of faith when they began their minority-owned businesses at those locations.

“They are visionaries,” Jordan said. “They believed early in Greenville, to the point where they made an investment in downtown when downtown looked very different than what it does today.”

While it is not yet publicly known what will be there, Jordan said he intends to maintain the integrity of both prominent business owners by incorporating their names into the projects.
